![]() I play PVE co-op, we started on The Island and then we went on to DLCs/expansions in the following order: Honestly, all the DLCs that I've played so far have all been good and worth buying. But if primitive is a must for you, then that's your call, I respect that. Genesis 1 is also a really great map for gameplay and creatures, if you're willing to put up with the sci-fi. My personal favourite is Aberration, since that is the most unique, and has a lot of very unusual creatures which are fun to use and change the game style immensely. If you are willing to look past the sci-fi aspect, however, I will say that all of the DLC maps offer new and unique gameplay in various ways, and could provide many hours of enjoyment. ![]() Dune-inspired sand worms in the desert, the wyverns which are fantasy in nature but came about through sci-fi means according to lore, and a few other creatures which don't have prehistoric counterparts. Scorched is probably the next least 'sci-fi' compared to the Island, but that too has it's elements. Additionally, one of the main goals of the map is to fix glitches which appear all over the game world (the whole map is meant to be a computer simulation), and the map's boss takes place in cyberspace. Genesis is perhaps the most sci-fi of all, so it definitely would not be your best bet: You have a little robot companion following you around, the map is divided into sections split up by inpenetrable forcefields, and the whole landscape is peppered with computer terminals where you can access missions and challenges to complete. It is very much sci-fi (even the fantasy creatures exist because of science, lore wise), and all the maps since then have included sci-fi elements. While the initial Island map has elements of primitive survival, Ark has never been a primitive game. In terms of recommending what you should get though.that's difficult, because based on what you said, none of the DLCs would fit your preferences. For example, Aberration is set in a cave underground, so one of the equips you learn there are glowsticks for light - these are very handy to have in dark areas on other maps, but not essential as you have the basegame torch and flashlight attachment. Some of this equipment can help to some degree on other maps, but the challenges are largely unique to each map, so they are not required in order to get on in other maps. Gameplay-wise, each map offers new gameplay challenges that you have to learn and overcome, and also new engrams and equipment which you can use. So if you really aren't bothered about following the story and revealing the game's lore incrementally, then any of the DLC will do. There's a few cool cutscenes when you beat bosses, but they don't tell you much that you wouldn't be able to read in the notes anyway. The story of the game is largely told through notes left by previous explorers, which you can read from various sources online.
